We have received an inheritance

Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan. Ephesians 1:11 NLT

We have received an inheritance from God. Another version says, 'we obtained an inheritance'. The 'ed' means we have this inheritance today, or at least the first part of it.

It's in Christ that you, once you have heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free - signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This signet from God is the first installment on what's coming, a reminder that we'll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life. Ephesians 1:13-14 The Message

The beautiful, gentle Holy Spirit who resides in us. The Holy Spirit who is always ready to come to our aid, if we ask, listen and obey.

And not only the creation, but we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the firstfruits of the [Holy] Spirit [a foretaste of the blissful things to come] groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies [from sensuality and the grave, which will reveal] our adoption (our manifestation as God's sons).

For in [this] hope we were saved. But hope [the object of] which is seen is not hope. For how can one hope for what one already sees? But if we hope for what is still unseen by us, we wait for it with patience and composure.

So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.

And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will.  Romans 8:23-27 AMP

And that, my friends, is only the first instalment of our inheritance when we unite with Christ.

In Him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings (Gospel) of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit. That [Spirit] is the guarantee of our inheritance [the firstfruits, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage], in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring [complete] possession of it - to the praise of His glory. Ephesians 1:13-14 AMP

That is only the foretaste. The Holy Spirit working in us. The Holy Spirit that guides us in taking hold of this promise...

We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labour] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. Romans 8:28 AMP

Questions for today, are you making full use of the first instalment of the inheritance you have received by choosing Jesus as your Lord and Saviour?  Are you asking, listening and obeying the promptings of the Holy Spirit in every area of your life?

I believe this is a continual journey for us all. I have found that some areas in my  life I have no problem submitting to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, but in other areas I am reluctant to give up my own motives and thoughts. So once again it is time to repent, accept God's forgiveness and listen, and wait in expectancy for what the Holy Spirit will teach us. Then act as He prompts.

But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). Galatians 5:16 AMP
